From The Voice Casting Team!

We're casting another incredible season of The Voice!  Auditions happen through video submissions or virtual open calls.   Here are some tips to help you nail your audition!

Audition Tips

Be yourself. This is the #1 rule. This what makes you stand out!

Song Choice.  Pick a song that show cases your voice best. Choose a cover that fits your voice and your vibe as an artist.  Don’t do too much,  just do what you do best!

Dress like it's your Blind Audition. Because after this audition it just might be.

Perform, don't just sing. Bring your energy, emotion, stage presence and personality to your audition.

Music.  You can sing a cappella, to a track, with an instrument or have someone accompany you.  Make sure your voice can be heard clearly over any music.

Record on a good device. A Camera, Mac, PC, iPhone, or Android phone all work great.

Keep it real. Skip the heavy reverb, compression, and vocal tuning.  Again, we want to hear you!  

Microphones.  If you are filming a video submission for us specifically we would prefer NO hand held microphone.  

If you are sending us a video from a venue or gig please be sure we can hear your voice clearly.  There should be no feed back, autotune or excessive reverb.  

For a Virtual Open Call we suggest NO hand held microphones.  Singing into the camera gives the best audio.  Please DO NOT use a hairbrush, water bottle, spatula or any other arbitrary object as a mic.  

Cut the noise. Find a quiet space, free from excessive noise, such as barking dogs, crying babies, or loud neighbors. We don’t need props or effects,  just you singing and performing clearly.  

If you are sending a video from a performance at a venue or gig please be sure we can hear you clearly over any audience or noise.  

Test your setup first. Make sure your audio and video look and sound clear before you send in your audition.  Be sure to rewatch your video audition keeping all the tips in mind before submitting.

Watch for echo. A room with too much natural reverb can make you sound like you're in a cave. Find a better-sounding space. 

Clean up your background. No dishes, laundry, or unmade beds.  Keep roommates and family out of the shot unless they are accompanying you on instruments.  

Lighting. Use a selfie light, lamp, or natural light in front of you so we can see you clearly.  Good lighting makes all the difference.

Frame the shot. Be sure keep the camera in focus, and avoid awkward angles or extreme close-ups.
